What head unit???
« on: April 03, 2016, 07:54:00 pm »
Hello I currently have mfd2 navi head unit. I brought a aftermarket aux port that fits near the gear knob having trouble making this work. I either want this to work so I can play music through my iPhone or is there any attachment to Bluetooth the music across or what do you lot do?

I upgraded from a RCD300 to a Kenwood DNX525DAB... A good all rounder, added Bluetooth/DAB/Sat-Nav to my 2005 car. Streams music over Bluetooth but I just fed the USB cable into the glovebox and keep the USB stick plugged in.

Looks lovely! Thinking about upgrading mine. Currently have the OEM head unit with iPod cable into the glove box (I have a very cheap second hand original iPhone that I leave in there as music repository) but would like to be able to stream either via bluetooth or an updated connection.

Plus the standard doesn't have any sat nav etc - while a phone sits nicely in the ash tray opening below it's not ideal. I'd like to keep the blue lighting as it makes the cockpit a much nicer place to be in the dark I think.

Google is obviously your friend for finding replacement units and you tube has enough video's of the convoluted process to take everything apart to fit the new unit (looks easy enough). The piece i'm worried about is having read of battery drain - is there a thread or any info here that tells me why this occurs and what to look out for when buying a new head unit? Or what the solution would be (Cambus?) and how easy that is to rectify if necessary... just a shout for help really..

The DNX525DAB is the official VW upgrade for older cars, dealers will fit it (and I assume give a warranty)
