After installing my RCD510, measured the current draw and found that after a couple of minutes it settled to a reading of zero (on a meter that reads down to 1 milliamp).  Assuming on this basis moment that my version K gateway module is not going to cause me a problem...unless anything kicks back in and starts drawing current after the car has been off for a while?

That's quick to settle normally a higher value - how and where have you introduced your meter I to the circuit?

Disconnected negative battery lead, put meter between the lead's clamp and the -ve battery terminal, meter set to read current across its high-current capacity terminals.  Meter was definitely working - we had readings that reduced in three steps before eventually settling to zero.

Well your values don't match the TSB guidelines but if your meter is working and calibrated then your results say you've got nothing to worry about but that not close to the last reading I had when looking for a fault. :driver:

Have to say (albeit with my limited knowledge), I was surprised to see it absolutely at zero, was fully expecting to see some nominal low draw.  Not counting my chickens just yet!

From recollection (should have written it down when testing on Saturday for accurate account); upon connection got about an amp of draw for a few secs, then fell to 130mA, then to 80mA then after a minute (maybe two from connecting) reading fell to naff all.

I find a twenty minute test gagging the doors and set the alarm so it goes to sleep correctly and 30ish MA  reading if I remember correctly.

So if you have hassle do another test and see what real values you do have. :happy2:

You can check this list of CAN Gateways that are compatible with the 3rd generation radios: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Navigation_System_(RNS510)_Retrofitting.

You'll need VCDS to know which software version your K CAN has.

Yeah I saw that and mine is not on the list which seems to point to it being compatible although someone said there were only 3 versions of the K which mine is slightly different

0020 not compatible pal, simple thing - numbers shows sw number, higher number higher soft, compatible is only 0178, 0020 is the lowest sw available. if would be option with 02xx it would be compatible.

The location changes depending on the year it was built. Search online, I'm sure you'll find a guide.

1T0035680P is my RNS510. Im in the same position as you in needing to update my Canbus. TPS has came back with a part number of '7N0907530AKZ00', does it ring a bell with you? Would anyone know if it'll be fine with my RNS?
