RNS510 hums
« on: May 08, 2016, 05:46:08 pm »
Anyone got any ideas? I've just run diagnostics and the car threw up an aux fail code. Was working ok.

Now it hums as though a tiny fan is on and the Satnav volume won't work

Any ideas?

I need the car to transport a baby about so can't have it fail on me

Reset to factory defaults and volume now working but the humming is still there...

I've seen some where it hums after when hot. How long does anyone know? It's 28c today and I sat with it in (engine running) for 10-15 minutes...

I'm pretty sure they all hum after the engine has been switched off. Only for a short while though (maybe 10-15 mins). Nothing to worry about.

Has yours always done it or just started doing it now?

OK it shouldn't be doing it after an hour definitely.

Have you upgraded your can gateway?

As @rashg60 said might be can gateway related? Mine hums too but after about 5 mins max it stops. Mines a version P RNS510 if that helps

It's been fine until today and been in there over a year. A bit weird really, I'm hoping it's just down to the weather.

The only thing I keep getting is this

Navigation
Part #: 1T0035680P
Component: RNS-MID
Coding: 04000402040000000005 (hex)
Fault codes:
03138 Input AUX IN

Radio

Component: RNS-MID
Coding: 04000402040000000005 (hex)
Fault codes:

Thanks for your help so far, any ideas if this could make it odd? It's an upgrade not factory fit.

The RNS510's have a cooling fan, mines runs for a good 10 minutes sometimes after I turn the car off. Must be normal.. you should hear the fan in the mk7 headunits, it's even louder! Unless what I was hearing was an electric coolant pump seeing as it was an R
