Avoid this temptation
« on: May 09, 2016, 04:33:22 pm »
Hey all, as a heads up, DO NOT approach these guys:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-TT-RS-CEP-RS3-2-5-TFSi-QUATTRO-Motor-Engine-Complete-340-BHP-/162060688742?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

Looks exactly the same as the scam that caught me out. If you message them, I'll bet they will ask for payment outside of eBay to an EU (offshore) account.

Don't be silly like I was, PayPal only people! My lesson cost me £3200, don't let yours cost you the same.

Sorry to learn of your heavy pricey misfortune @th3_f15t

Me and my brother went to A place for our porsche rebuild engine totally nothing to do woth this add 6 months ago and no payments were made  untill after the job is fully done.
Never trust an EBAY ENGINE REBUILD OR OTHER FOR SALE ADD unless you've been to the place and seen some proof of this.

You've got to remember this is their chosen form of employment and they tend to be very very convincing. It is very good of you to educate other members with such honesty and details of your loss.

Cheers guys.

They produced a proper looking website and even a VAT invoice with VAT number on, so at the time I was like "checks out". It wasn't till after the money left my account and they went cold that I dug deeper and saw many parts of the website didn't link to anything and the VAT number was for a different company (was also slightly wrong, used a non-existent prefix for a UK business) and when I looked at the telephone number (which was listed as a mobile) it was actually a Glasgow area number (land line) that goes straight to answer phone.

Needless to say, make sure you check very, VERY carefully or, as mentioned (and reminded several times by my bank :P ) use PayPal goods. Yes, 5% fee seems annoying but if I'd of paid the fee (about £192), I'd of been so much better off. £3200 better of to be exact...

£192 or £3200... I'm doing a maths degree and I still didn't work that one out! :fighting2:

Wow. I picked up on something you said about this in another thread but I didn't realise you'd been stung for so much. Sorry to hear it mate.

I hope this hasn't dampened your intentions of doing the 5 cylinder swap? Apart from the Statller car I haven't seen many mk6 conversions. It would be one hell of a car. Keep the faith mate.

Ah, hell no! Whole reason I spotted they're at it again is I'm still searching for a 5 cylinder engine! Takes more than that to put me off my goals. If my bank can't pull the money back then I'll just have to be amazingly good for a few months and I can recover my losses.
