iPod dock to lightning with charging
« on: May 09, 2016, 08:05:51 pm »
Hi all

My 07 MY GTI with an RCD300 has an old-style iPod dock in the armrest which needs a firewire adapter in order to charge my old iPhone 4S.  Now I've got a 6S, I don't like the clutter of a firewire-to-30 pin adapter into a cable into a 30 pin-to-lightning adapter!

I'd like to get an all-in-one adapter to lightning cable but I can't find one.  Any ideas?

Shadow blue DSG 5 door with leather, sunroof, 18" Monzas, MFSW.
Full list of mods:  Seat inserts and a VW bottle opener.  Each worth 20bhp.

I think the only way round this is to get a MDI unit and a lightening wire which I don't think will work with your head unit. I believe you will need to change your unit to one of the newer models to make it compatible with the MDI (eg rns510, rns315 rcd510, rcd310) - which if you have an older revision canbus, this will require updating too else you will suffer with battery drain
