Wheel Refurb - Colour Advice?
« on: May 23, 2016, 01:00:34 pm »
Hi all,

Now that the weather is better and I actually have the funds, I am looking to get my wheels refurbished.

I will be getting these powder coated as I cant be bothered with white worm returning if I was to get the wheels re-cut, also, I don't have the cash for this.

My question is, can any other members give any suggestions for something that would look decent and get close to a colour of a diamond cut wheel?  I know it will not look the same but just want something that looks decent.

I have a grey GTi so don't fancy having the wheels done black or a colour almost the same as the bodywork.

Any help is greatly appreciated, paint codes if possible.   :happy2:

Thanks for the reply Beej, you got any photos of the wheels on the car?  Also, do you know the paint code or name?

I need to take some in decent light to get full effect.

I had them done by a friend, both the silver and black were a mixture of different paints, so don't have paint codes to go by unfortunately. However, Mercedes-Benz iridium silver paint code 775 and Mercedes-Benz obsidian black paint code 197 would be my preference!!

Cheers!

Yeah, I am very pleased with them, I will get some better pictures in the sunlight at some point. There is a sparkle in both the silver and black, hence why both those paint codes I gave you would be closest to go by as the black isn't just plain

i would love to get mine done. The diamond cut does look mint and i'd be worried that they'd look dull once painted but yours look really nice.

They look so good, they look diamond cut. So powder coated? I know you said yours was a mix of colours - but the paint codes you gave - would they give a similar result to this? And how much if you don't mind me asking.

Can't go wrong with anthracite grey colour. Have a look on Google images.  :happy2:

I don't know - especially as my car is steel grey. Think they look much better when they are diamond cut/ look like diamond cut.

Not powder coated, painted. I suggested the two colours to my painter as they are personal preferences, as that silver is probably the brightest vehicle silver I could find and the black has a sparkle through it also. He used these plus added some other mixtures to them. I have tried to put a picture of the two together Mercedes colours, but for some reason, I can't get photo bucket to work on my phone. I will sort this tonight when I'm home, but at a guess, yes, I would imagine using both the codes I gave would give very similar results.

As to price, well, it was done by a friend, a friend who hasn't taken money off me yet as he hasn't quite decided how much to charge me!

I am not a fan of grey or black wheels, so I had actually initially asked my friend just to paint them all the one colour, then I mentioned to him about doing the inserts black, but he wasn't really up for doing it due to slight thickness differences at the edges of the inserts, but when I gave him the wheels I was under the impression he was doing them all the one colour as we had agreed on that, and then he sent me a picture with them finished with black inserts!
