MFD2 and MFSW

Hi guys,

I've just fitted a MFSW from a GT and I have a 05 gti with highline clocks and cruise control. My head unit is the black buttoned MFD2.

I'm wondering what I need to do/get to get the right hand buttons on the steering wheel to skip tracks, or skip radio preset radio stations?

At the moment the up and down buttons just scroll through what you have displayed on the highline, ie the trip computer either 1 or 2.

The volume buttons work fine and so does the star/mute button on the left hand side..

Which style buttons have you got on the right hand side?  They came in 2 different styles. On the mfd2 i know that the buttons forward and rewind tracks and not skip them back and forth. But you need to be in the audio menu in the highline cluster.

It's got the < and > but up down, if you know what I mean, and then it's got an OK button and a three line button, looks a bit like a list. The OK button changes from trip 1 and 2, the up /down scrolls through these.  How do I get the audio displaying on the highline?

One thing I should add, that when programming the MFSW I have coded it 0002042, but according to the coding i should be 0003042, as I have cruise, but it mentions 'voice' with this?

The 0003042 get the 'code rejected' invalid value..

so you have the later style buttons.

Depending on which clusters you have, you either need to press the menu button (3 lines one above OK on SW), or hold the up button on either the steering wheel or wiper stalk and go into audio.

If you dont see the audio option, you need to untick the BAP option using vcds. I think you do it in the instruments control module long coding

Aye, so I press and hold the <(up) on SW and this gets me into audio.  This then displays the audio on the highline cluster, but either in CD or radio, the up/down buttons on SW do nothing?  Is this normal?  Or is there something else I need to do?  I was expecting to be able to skip tracks when in CD?

Can anyone tell me whether the up down buttons should do anything when I've got cd or radio displayed on the highline?

I'm still not sure why, when I coded the steering wheel it wouldn't accept the 0003042, which to me seems the correct code for my vehicle but it did accept the 0002042. 

I'll try and get a picture of the coding options box that pops up when you go to code the MFSW, it'll make more sense..

Yes, the up and down arrows change radio stations and the CD/DVD track just like the arrows that the RNS-510 has at the top left corner.

Or disable BAP and loose most the highline screens (satnav & radio) I recall.

UNLESS you change red clocks to white or colour high line display.

I've upgraded my MFD2 to RNS510, Clocks to full colour 3D clocks & have mK6 'R' MFSW steering wheel.
Everything works as it should.  didn't with red clocks!

My clocks are red, the car came from factory with a working MFSW and a RNS-510. I just needed to get a PolarBT/Battery module to make the newer BT module (7P6) work with the red clocks just like they work with the white. Only the RNS-510 use BAP protocol that needs to be disabled to make the radio work with red clocks. The MFD2 is an older generation so there's no issue with that. You're confusing RNS-510 and MFD2 codings. My guess is steering wheel module isn't correct, or some other module (CAN Gateway), or the VCDS coding isn't right or the steering wheel loom isn't compatible. Someone who does these retrofits should know the right answer.

This is the part numbers installed..

The control module is the (from ross tech site)

And the air bag loom (sent from retro Raz) is 1K0 971 584 C

And this is the coding options... I reckon mine should be 0003042, but it won't accept this code, and I have 0002042 coded in... I do have cruise control and it is still working..

If the up and down buttons are working fine for the mfd then the problem must be somewhere else. I had the version G control module in my car and was able to use the buttons for the radio. This is really strange if it dont work for the radio.

Just realised, i used mine on an Rns510 and not an mfd2.  I do however remember when i did a highline retrofit for @shoaybmakda we had an issue where the buttons didn't skip tracks, it only would forward and rewind.

@shoaybmakda did you have new style or old style buttons?

I was thinking, i wonder do i have to have audio selected on the highline before coding the steering wheel with 0003042? doubt it, but thought i'd ask.

Also I've seen mention of the lined button on right hand side of the steering wheel doing the selection between trip 1 and 2 on the highline?  What should this button do if all was working correctly?

The only other thing that i can't say for sure is whether or not the cruise control was fitted from factory, and therefore would it be possible my slip ring is incorrect? and would this stop certain coding and functions of the sw buttons?

The lined button is used to toggle through the menus on later style clusters. I think your slip ring is okay otherwise the buttons wouldn't work at all.
