DSG Swap
« on: January 18, 2010, 12:46:00 pm »
hi all

im green here, so i dont know does this thread fit to the area, but anyway... :ashamed:
i have '08 gti with dsg, after few years i want to transform my car from DD to pure track days car. Not with 350hp and so on, becouse   260-280 hp would be enough for tracks on fwd. Mostly modifications would be with weight, suspension, brakes, lsd if...i could swap dsg to manual. It would be more fun to drive and reliable to me. So my question is: did someone swap from dsg to manual, or from manual to dsg (suppose, there is no difference)??
if yes, is it too complicated and long process? what about budget?

thank you mates

The DSG can easily handle 300 BHP  :chicken: and with a REVO DSG map it is ideal for track days. As long as you give the box regular oil changes then it will out last a Manual clutch easily.  :happy2:

ive seen .:R32 owners go from manual to DSG in the MK4

so its possible, but very expensive, although i cant offer any real facts as i have no experience

i do know of a company that can do it though: http://www.vr6specialist.com/

pomme on here has had alot of work done by them and rates them very highly

just in theory the transmission (in particular case DSG) is fitted to engine instead manual. when you dismantle the g-box you can change the type of box (from dsg to manual). MAybe im wrong and it is much more complicated  i'll try to identify and will inform you, think it is intresting...

I don't imagine it's a massive job.
Pedals, gear linkage, dual mass flywheel and manual clutch obviously.
Code in the ecu needs changing fom DSG to manual.
DSG is the way foward but sometimes I still wish I had manual to help slow the car down..

i think the same!
i'd add clutch and shift knob (or smth like that) to the list
with each year car producers are designing more and more boring cars
and all this systems only impede to get pleasure

Davv - stick with the DSG and invest in a Quaiffe instead.
