Timing belt kits for k04 gti
« on: July 11, 2016, 05:31:37 pm »
Can anyone tell me if the timing belt kits for the k03 are the same as the k04 ones?
Ive a Pirelli that needs a timing belt etc and was wondering which one to get.
Also if anyone has a link to where to buy that would be awesome sauce :)

Thanks
Oisin

Yes it's just the same, I just buy them from euro car parts. Buy the dayco ones as vw fit this brand from the factory.

Hello,

I have taken a look into ETKA, and ETKA gives different numbers for the timing belts:

AXX, BWA --> 06F 198 119A
BYD --> 06D 109 119B

But they will be 99,9% identical I guess...

My new belt is from Continental, bought directly from VW. AFAIK VW uses Dayco and Continental.

If you buy from vw they come with a warranty if it fails they will repair everything whereas if you buy from say euro the warranty only covers the kit not the damage that follows

Very much doubt that they would cover the cost of a engine, they'll just say it was fitted incorrectly but I may be wrong.

Don't get why people get so hung up over OEM parts from vw, vw have brands making parts for their whole car range from dayco, bosch, fag etc etc. only different is buying from vw you pay more for a part that has been took out of one box and placed into a one with vw written on.

You can't go wrong with the 3 branded belts above all top quality and I have seen INA and dayco belts on many of cars with the original belt

I'm only going by what a master technician of vw told me as he now owns his own garage now. Told me the part is the same from more or less all the places only difference being the level of cover if the part fails

But surely he just mean if vw fitted the part and then it failed vw would cover the entire cost? Can't see how buying from vw then a back street garage fitting it then it goes bang and vw come along and fix your broken engine. That's all am saying, I maybe wrong :happy2:
