Does the mk5 look dated now?
« on: July 22, 2016, 05:06:49 pm »
So I really wanted to buy a mk6 gti. I have been refused a bank loan and I was going to pay 6k up front, so now I only have 6k to spend. Now my only option is to buy a mk5, To me they look a little dated and the shape at the back isnt great although I love the front end tbf. Also the interior doesnt look that amazing I wanted aux as standard too. Idea was to keep the car for 5 years, I have 3 kids as well so a 3 series is out of the question. Quite like an a4 s line but they are 9k as well..... I could save another 3k for a mk6 but that would take another 18 months or so

They do look dated, but not as much as other cars from the same era.

They don't make cars tough enough for kids so I wouldn't want to invest no more money than absolutely necessary, considering funding tight and as for style I still enjoy looking at a clean well presented Mkv.

No I don't think so. The interior and tech is obviously flagging but I think the body shape will still look good in 10 years time. I intend to keep mine as long as possible.

I think to look at a base model MK5, yes they do look quite dated but the GTI and R32 still look modern to me. They have definitely aged better compared to other cars from that era.

Same here - the edition 30 also looks stunning for me and I still get plenty of looks at my car. I don't think it looks as dated as some other manufacturer vehicles.

Golf Shape is pretty much the same. Saw a Mk 6 2012 on the road today, and thought to myself it ain't that significantly different to the mk 5 - outwardly.  Mk 7 does look 'fresher', but loadsa money more. That's why they do it - to keep you buying the newer model. Mk 5 with private plate on is fine for me - mine's on 05, so really gettin on. Sod the neighbours - I wasted far too much on keeping up with the Jones's over the years. Invest your money elsewhere........IMHO

Until the day I sell it no it doesn't look out dated  :signLOL: :driver:

Nah they look nice as I still admire it whether it's dirty or not.

The mk6 looks poor and not really a gti in my eyes.

I think most modern cars become out dated quite quickly now as manufacturers update cars more frequent now than they used to.

Mk5 GTi, R32 or Ed30 with the right spec (Xenons & Nav) still turn heads - private plate adds to the occasion!

Donr know about the Nav unless you're looking to break in and pinch it  :signLOL: but the rest along with a nice exhaust note wheels maybe even 50% light smoke tinted window  cherry red rear lights too.

Completely agree with this. lower specs looks a lot older than the higher models o think

I think my Eddy is the best looking car I've owned MK6 similar in shape and MK7 has lost the wow in my opinion. Will be in no rush to move on.

I think if I was to colour code the plastic rear bumper and side skirts would make a big difference; any idea on approximate costs?

Also I really wanted aux as standard is it only 08 onwards which have it?
