Does the mk5 look dated now?

I would have to say I think my ED30 does not look dated at all and the best looking car I have owned and still far better shape and looks than a lot of the crap they are churning out nowadays.

Most cars churned out of the factory look like Ikea boxes to be honest and all the mod cons in the world will not change that. Where as the MK5 GTI,R32 and ED30 still turn heads and I bet if you took the plate off then those that did not know about Golfs would not be able to tell you what year it was.

As for the Interior I think the layout is up there with a lot of the modern cars still but in particular the ED30 with it's half leather/tartan seat and all the stitching and trimming is beautiful and I would not swap it for anything.

Also and just my opinion the MK5 was the iconic car to bring back the essence of the GTI after it went through a slump of a few models

A few Mk6 parts make the interior feel completely different. Mine has Mk6 wheel, RCD510 (about to fit Bluetooth), headlight switch, and a Mk6 gear knob. I've also retrofitted cruise control, cherry hazard switch and newsouth boost gauge.



A few mods to the outside and it looks better than any Mk6

as mentioned it depends on the model. Ed30's and R32's seem as good now as they ever did as the colour coding and darker rear lights really help. Other models have aged quite quickly apart from the GTI or any with the similar grill shape but the standard rear lights and non colour coding they are starting to show age a bit.

Interiors will always date fast imo with the amount of in car tech innovations but with a few retroi fits like chrome tip switches, RNS/RCD, MDI and mk6 steering wheel gives a good refresh to the cabin.

Like Rich mine is staying for as long as possible. I bought it on 49k and was going to keep it 3years or to 70k, which ever came first. I'm now on 110k and had it nearly 6 years

I have a mk5 & mk7 GTI and I plan to keep the mk5 until it dies.

I don't think it looks dated it all. It never fails to put a smile on my face

IMHO the Mk5 is, aesthetically, the best looking Golf (with the exception of the Mk4 R32 and Mk1 GTI  ) ever made. My Eddy always got admiring smiles and nice comments from both those in the known and those who weren't into theirs cars. 

As others have mentioned, interior is looking dated, why I turned mine into a Mk5.5 inside but it's still a nice place to be.

With your budget I wouldn't hesitate to get a Mk5.......happy hunting.

I don't think it looks dated it all. It never fails to put a smile on my face

Excellent review of the Mk5 Gti, still gives me goose bumps! on my 3rd one now, even though I have a Mk7 R, this car still does it for me
Plan to keep my Pirelli for a long time, and regret having sold my first 06 Reg one at 3yrs old :-(

If you have 5k to spare, they are great value for money and great fun, just make sure the DV has been changed and is not torn....must be thousands out there that are knacked and people just don't realize that their car could be so much more fun to drive just by changing a 60quid part!!

I totally agree with you there, I think the MK5 has the refined look but front looks miles better than any other mk I think and was the rebirth of the GTI.

I might be biased but in this lineup I am in the MK1 and mine were getting the most view and photo's  so that is consumer feedback right there

I do like the mk5 but if I was to buy 1 I would have to colour code bumpers and skirts and replace headunit to get an aux, also lower by a little. For that money im going to have to spend I may as well get a mk6 I just need to save some more ;)

A: IMO, not when tastefully modded, no. OEM+ always seems to make a car look like an unknown special or limited edition from the factory which obviously boosts appeal and longevity of looking classy.

Sometimes they look dated in low spec, dark colours, when everything is darkened out and they've only gone for the 'black on black' sorta look. Doesn't help, but I don't think they've aged any worse than MK6 in honesty!

Candy white Edition 30's can look particularly fresh for a MK5, with Xenons and a small drop. Again, it's immediate appearance is "this isn't an average Golf" and you have to question it's age/model, rather than it looking 8/9/10 years old from the outset

Perfect example I think the MK5 has aged very well and with a few simple mods it can still be classed as modern and up to date with the times. In my opinion
