Is this worth it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-VW-GOLF-MK5-1-4-TSI-DSG-GEARBOX-JBT-CODE-REF-G5A-/161014555143?hash=item257d372207

The 1.4TSIs use a 7 speed DSG do they not? In any event give how sensitive the gearboxes tend to be I really don't want to be risking wasting any more money.

I'd recommend Bristol Gearbox Centre too, mine is running silky smooth since they did the mech valve body for me.

Great bunch of guys and very professional.

I've written to them. They replied asking for more details which I've asked the guys at AKS to provide. Hopefully they'll pick their emails up soon and get back to me. I'm in Vietnam on holiday at the moment and trying organise this from here is not proving easy.

Good luck with getting AKS to reply, I mailed them a couple of times, both times enquiring about spending a non small amount of money with them. Both times zero reply. They must have so much business they can afford to turn work away !.

Believe it or not they do. They've just moved premises and Alex has hired two new guys and they are still booked up weeks in advance. Best bet is the call them. They are worth the wait.

I called weeks ago...enquiring about tts disks and adaptors...chap took my details saying someone would call me back......still waiting.

Understand they are busy but is pretty poor customer service not to bother calling someone back who wants to spend money!

Seems strange we would need to chase a company to give them our money, I for one had a good deal of cash to spend. I went elsewhere who actually showed interest...., bit of a shame for AKS, or maybe not for them as they are so busy and can pick their customers ?

Someone was supposed to be coming around to my house today to give me a quote for some building work... probably worth the best chunk of 30K... did he turn up? Did he f*ck!  :fighting:

Sadly in today's world If a company is busy they tend not to need to court new business if there existing customer base is happy with their service and quality.

The down side is misdiagnosing a fault and the customer ending up with a costly bill.

That's a different part of the thread and not every fault can be pin pointed to the exact item which you shouid understand which seems the case in this situation.

I've seen it happen in many situations at different work places. one was a simple O ring causing a misfire and the customer was charged £1500 for a full exhaust system on a Toyota carina and didn't resolve the issue until another tech found an O ring perished. I'd be fuming if it were my car and I had to pay for something for nothing. I'm sure OP isn't happy.

Agree, seems Alex and co have enough loyal customers and work on the books that they don't care about new customers. I think it also says quite a bit about a companies attitude if things go wrong. I have seen it before with this type of scenario, you have to chase to get them interested then if you do manage to get things booked, if it starts to become a pain for them in terms of unexpected time on unexpected issues things get more hassle as they again want to concentrate on the stable consistent work they have. As someone else said seems quite common in the building trade. And sadly also in the motor trade

I'd disagree there, simply as I know how busy Alex & co. are. Alex simply doesn't have time to sit there reading and replying to emails everyday. And what would you rather from a company - them abandon you in search of new customers and more money, or a thorough service with aftercare support, and them focussed on ensuring you're happy? The latter is becoming increasingly rare in this day and age and is not something to be frowned upon.

The reason Alex, and other small outfits like R-Tech etc. are so busy is because they keep things small and do a good job, take pride in their work and customer service. If they branched out, took on more staff, upped their prices etc. then they would be no different to any other tuner or VAG specialist out there. You start to lose the thing that makes them so unique and popular.

If you want to get hold of AKS urgently, the best thing to do is give them a ring

Think you are missing the point slightly, I am not saying how they should run their businesses or that once you manage to get hold of them they don't have happy customers based on the work they do. I am saying that they are loosing business and not building a great reputation with new customers if their only communication channel is the phone. In this day and age you can't expect people to only use the phone !, they even mention sending them a email on their website. If they are too busy to even reply to emails then that's great they are busy, but they will be loosing business and reputation as well. Which to me seems crazy. But they can operate how they want and by the sounds of it have enough work  :happy2:

Also the guy above mentioned he called them and they didn't call back....

Could I kindly request we keep this thread on topic please? I have been getting work done from Alex pretty much from day dot when he didn't even have a landline. I know the quality of his work so there's a reason I don't take my car anywhere else even though I live nowhere near him.

Yes I would rather he was better at answering emails, particularly at the moment. But I know the standard of his work and know why he's so busy.
