Cam follower, again
« on: July 28, 2016, 06:21:52 am »
So after reading tutorials and watching videos I am going to change my cam follower! My question is do I need new bolts and gasket as sold as a kit by Awesome gti, or can I use the old ones. Only on the videos there is no mention of gasket?
I have a main stealer just down the road so just picking up the follower will be far easier.

you don't NEED to. but I'd recommend changing both the first time you do it, solely down to the age and mileage the current ones have covered. You shouldn't need to change them each and every time you remove the HPFP to check/change the follower in future.

Dan you seem very knowledgeable so another question, when doing a DV change is it easier to pop the car up on couple of ramps and get under vehicle rather than struggling through wheel well? Cheers.

K03 GTI? If so, then yes it IS easier from underneath if you can get the car high enough (2 post lift in a garage makes it a doddle!) but it is still easy enough to do just jacking up the drivers side, removing the wheel and arch liner, and going at it from there. Quarter drive ratchet, extensions and Torx bits are a must a access is a bit limited

2 post lift, I should be so lucky! Just 2 Halfords specials drive up jobs. Yeah KO3 Gti, that's couple of hours of my weekend planned.
Thank you for your assistance Dan.

I find it easier going through the arch liner on axle stands.

In regard to the follower, I use the same small 1/4" ratchet with extensions for the banjo bolt (you will have a banjo bolt if your engine is axx) that I use for the dv, very handy!

All done this morning took me half hour, not bad for first timer! Not sure what stage this would be but pretty shiney compared to new one. 07 55k original follower
