Hi guys,

Not a great start to my morning, when I started my GTI edition 30 the engine management light was on. I read the fault code and it gave:

P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow

Quick google and it mentioned some possible causes with the fuel line. I checked the fuel cap is closed properly but before changing lots of things I wanted to check if anyone has had this before?

Thanks,
Surjit

Just ignore  :happy2:

I've had it a handful of times and goes away for a few months then comes back. Nothing to worry about if the car drives fine, just enjoy it

First off - nothing to worry about. Its not a major issue, and if you can live with it, you can ignore it. There are a number of ways to resolve it if you can't live with it.

Some people have solved it by replacing the n80 (I think its the n80) valve, but it can also be the carbon canister that you can replace. There are a few other ways to get rid of the problem

I had the valve changed under warranty and the CEL disappeared for around a month before coming back. Then changed the carbon canister and not had the fault again. The canister was not covered under warranty.

You can test the N80 valve by using VCDS to open and shut it. Just listen in the engine bay for a clicking and that should indicate if it is faulty.

I had the same issue and I tried changing the pipework leading to the charcoal canister first of all, but still the error kept coming back (this had now been a year of errors every 2 weeks, with no noticeable difference). Changed the canister finally and haven't seen the error since (a year later now).

Check the black plastic pipe that runs to the coal-can for any breaks, as said above could either be the N80 valve or the coal-can it's self, both around £80.
The N80 valve can be tested with VCDS, before you buy one.

Some folk have removed that part of the system.

If it's not broke, Mod it.....

Thanks guys.

The plastic pipe seems fine.

Also where is the location of the valve, is it the one at the front right of the engine (if I'm facing the car) with 2 wire connections and 2 pipes either side? (pic would be great). If so, when I put my finger on it, its pulsing when the engine is running. Is that showing it's working?

I don't have VCDS so is there anyway to test the n80 valve?

Also, when filling up your car with petrol, if your filling the tank, only fill it until the petrol pump bowser clicks off automatically. Don't then try to fill it up to the brim as the overflow goes down the pipe towards the carbon canister causing it to throw up the error.
