2nd hand Pilot Sport 2 tyres - opinions on this Gumtree ad please!

What do folk think? I'm just thinking of stocking up.

Phoned the guy - been sitting in his attached-to-the-house garage for 4 years after he sold his e46 m3. Even tread - no repairs - no defects or rot.

What would you pay?

Ahh damn! Well, for what it's worth - it was a pair of Michelin Pilot Sport 2 225/40/18 with 1200miles wear. Advertised at £100 and I just went and got them for £80. Not sure if it's a great or even a good deal tbh... I've minimum knowledge of tyres!

Tyres degrade. Usually six years from manufacture is limit. The manufacture date should be on the sidewall. 'DOT' then four numbers; first two numbers are the week of the year, so 01-52, second two are the year.

2005 - so, 20th week of 2005. I had read over 6 years from manufacture is not recommended.

So yeah, I didn't know about the DOT thing until now - cheers AJP and when I asked him when they were stored, he said around the same time. they were taken off the car, so 4 years.

Gumtree sucks for uninformed people like me

He's a bit ambiguous about it. Can't help thinking these will end up on the road soon. He shouldn't be trying to make money out of these.

Most of the general public don't know how to read an advert so someone will buy them 

The amount of silly questions I used to get on there such as where are you located, how much and what colour is it even though all 3 of those things were clearly on the advert..

A lot of people won't read it and realise there's a safety concern. Unless you already know what the DOT stamp actually means you'll ignore it. This thread is a case in point.

He could have written "These tyres have expired and should not be used". But he didn't, because he wants to sell them. He's gambling on people being oblivious to DOT codes and tyre life.

Naughty.
