Still need to try and locate where my Bluetooth module is, then I can see what my current version is.

Hi Tim I also have a rns510 with a bluetooth module installed under the passenger seat with the mic installed above my head by the courtesy lights. I also have an iPhone which I regularly stream music either via Bluetooth or plugged into the mdi.
All the equipment is OEM all installed by myself, I don't have vcds and the system generally works ok; for the life of me I cannot recall which Bluetooth module I have, but I can take a look over the weekend if that helps.

That would be great if you can find out what module you have. I'll check when I get home which one I have.

I don't have mdi so that's maybe another retro for I can do.
Simple answer - old modules work using RSAP protocol - nokia and some android/samsung phones, later ones - UHV, for iphone need the latest one, which could be called UHV+, 3c8 modules can work on both uhv and rsap, but needs white/colour cluster to pair the phone. Most popular module for mk5 is 7P6.  If it is factory fitted and you would want stereo sound from bluetooth audio, you need to change the loom or add 2 wires to exsisting loom for 2nd audio channel to get stereo sound.

Have  the modules and the looms.

Pashka,

I'm looking to add Bluetooth to my 58 plate R32, I want to be able to stream music from my iPhone also. Which module do I need for this? There is so many of them, pretty confusing ha!

I think we'll both need the 7P6 module by the sounds of it.

Yeah, I'm thinking so. I've PM'd Pashka, seems he's only an hour from me so will see about getting it sorted through him.

Quick update, just check my MK6 golf and that has a 7P6 version is so if be more than happy to use this version in my Mk5 as it does everything I have ever wanted it to.

Might pinch it from the MK6!

Still doesn't make sense how I can't find my Bluetooth module in the MK5.

When checking in the MK6 it's so obvious under the drivers seat.

Because it is not factory fitted and put behind the unit or under the gear knob/cig lighter, I do so  :signLOL: another answer why it doesn't work with iPhone, because you have older uhv module, which doesn't support iPhone.

Is it likely the Bluetooth module I have then is smaller if it's hidden behind the unit? The 7P6 one in the MK6 is quite big and I can't see that fitting behind the unit or under the cig lighter.

Tim it has been known some people have installed the module  behind the centre console, below the radio

Thanks I've just had a look and it is in there. Part number starts 5N0.

I'm going to try taking the one from my MK6 and plug it in to the MK5, see if it works. Maybe I'll need a new look to get it to work.

There was also a grey box in there with a black and red, guessing this is something to do with the mic.

5n0 is old and mk6 will work for sure.

Ok so I've plugged in the Bluetooth module from the Mk6 in to my MK5.
Phone connected straight away (I guess that was expected as I've already connected to that module on the other car).

Came up on RNS510 screen and made a call.

However it did not come up on the dash. Cycled through he computer menus but there wasn't one there for phone.

There was a purple plug that also went in to the old blue tooth unit but the new Bluetooth unit won't accept this. Does anyone know what the purple plug is? Seems to come from behind the dash, drivers side.
