Where do you have your reg plates
« on: September 06, 2016, 08:58:24 am »
I have just bought a new reg plate and the front one I got shorter in length as it's 5 characters but I'm not sure where I want it. I have a smooth grill so that is a no,  used to have it below it but I always hated it there,  was thinking having it between the headlights and fogs but not sure !  Has anyone else done this?

Ask the policeman where you should put it if you get pulled

I meant if you make it smaller in length.

I put them where they are supposed to go, because offset plates look sh*te and in the window is asking to be tugged.

Although I just read..

- The margins at the top, bottom and side of the plate
must be 11mm.

So yeah you could make it shorter in length and should still be legal but the amount of coppers who don't know the law and might pull you anyway, it's not worth the hassle imo. I have 5 letters/digits in my plate and stick with the standard sized plates because I don't want the hassle.

And as said the best place to put it is where it was from the factory. People put them at the bottom near the splitter but it makes your car look like a goofy kid at school imo

Yeah the plate is legal all characters are the correct height it's just not as wide. Should have been more specific. I'll probably just put it underneath the grille again anyway

Just don't want to ruin the smooth grill though, do magnets work well seen some people doing that?

If you get strong ones they will work.

I have mine in the original location on magnets (which i borrowed from work) as i smoothed the holes out in the grill, sits well, easy on off and though the ride is bouncy the plate hasnt moved. Nice little mod the magnets ;)

This!

They look perfectly fine where they should be fitted from the factory.

I was thinking earlier.. putting them on the lower grille will surely block air going to the intercooler??
