Possible Dension Gateway hardware installed on my Edition 30
« on: October 12, 2016, 10:34:51 pm »
Hi Folks,

I've got an Edition 30 with Highline and MFSW. Under the arm rest is a cable with a female USB connector on it. Also, when scrolling through the MFD, the text eventually shows 'Dension GW'.

The chap I bought my car from believes some audio or multimedia hardware was installed by the first owner, but he's none the wiser.

Can I assume some Dension hardware is installed? If so, how do I find out which hardware, and importantly how to make use of it?

I've tried connecting my iPhone 5S via lightning cable to the female USB, but all that happens is intermittent charging. The same happens with my Gen 2 iPod.

I considered calling Dension first, but thought I'd get more sense from forum members.

Any help/thoughts/guidance would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

U could do with finding the box the USB cable is connected to so you know what your dealing with. Might be in or around the globe box area

You need to find the control box. Start in the easy places, ie glove box.

I had a Dension gateway fitted in a 2008 BMW, and ran ipod 1 & 2 off it. Never used iphones.
Pod link was really good, and gave full artist & track details in the dash display, which was rather similar to the eds highline display. It sort of scrolled across...
Probably worth persevering with if you want to use ipods?
That said, I find my £300 RNS315 DAB far better, and the display of music on SD cards is better than that Dension/pod interface. So, i wouldn't waste too much time/money on it?

99hagued and grey golfster - thanks chaps.

Two bits of info I failed to include in my original post: I've looked for a control box in all usual/obvious places, but no luck. Also, I've done a BT search, but nothing is picked up.

The only other place I can think the control box might be is somewhere underneath or within the centre arm rest console, as that's where the cable with female USB connector is situated.
