I would really appreciate some buying advice on this E30 I'm looking at tomorrow morning:

Looks to be good value for money, nice low mileage and owners.

Check that the dsg has been serviced and the cam belt/water pump replaced.

Check the front wings for rust, just at the mid point on the bottom lip of the arch, also down by cills.

Find our if the cam follower has been renewed too?

When you pull up the lever to put the front seats forwards for access into rear, the seats should slide on the rails as well. It is common for the cable to stretch/snap, preventing the seat from sliding on the rails. When it has started to stretch, there will be a clicking noise when the seat slide forwards.

Otherwise, it looks to be a clean car, you may want to do an MOT check to see if any advisories have been flagged on previous MOTs?

Thanks for the help! I didn't know about the seat issues. The car checked out to be very genuine so I bought it. A few cosmetic issues to address but everything else checks out. Im very happy to be a E30 owner

Looks like you got a bargain  :happy2:

I'm always weary when a seller prices a car much lower than anyone else for a "quick sale" but looks like things have checked out all good for you.

Now get some projectors headlights on it

Did he sort the brake issue and coil spring at front?

I was weary too but everything seems to check out. Service history is excellent just a few cosmetic issues to look at but nothing expensive.

I did want xenons but I knew a compromise would have to be made.

The brake issue was a binding caliper and the coil spring had broken. Both all replaced with bills to show the work. The only down side is the caliper is silver not red. The seller was genuinely disappointed by what the garage had fitted for him. Anyway I will be painting the caliper to match the others.

So far its great to join the Mk5 gti club.  :happy2:
