Oil
« on: January 24, 2010, 03:30:57 pm »
Is Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 suitable for a Mk5  GTI with 28k on it?  Might be a stupid question but some told me this is the correct one just wanted to check!
Cheers

No, I don't think it is.

You have to use an oil which has VW 504.00 written on it, so that means Castrol Edge 5w-30 not magnatec.

see here:

http://www.castrol.com/castrol/productdetailmin.do?categoryId=9014072&contentId=7027058

Or another brand which adheres to 504.00

I've just had the same problem, found a couple of threads on here about it and I deduced from it that,

Castrol Edge 5w 30 is the correct oil, its pricey at £44.99 for Halfords but worth it. Annoying thing is for an oil change you need 4.6l and it only comes in 4l tubs for you need 2 tubs, that right £90 just on some oil!
