What do these spacers fit on
« on: November 18, 2016, 04:53:53 pm »
I bought these off some low life off the FB tfsi forum and he's blocked me and disappeared so obviously sold me something that doesn't fit the mk5 platform and lied to me.

They are hubcentric 5x112 and fit onto the hub but don't sit all the way because of the lip inside that's preventing it from going all the way. :sad1:

Any ideas ?
Thanks

Might not be much help this, but I had the same issue on the old mk4. Fronts were no issue, but at the back the bit the spacers centred on protruded about 5-8mm too far. I tackled it by removing the little hub cap and taking it down about 10mm with the angle grinder. Hardly a great solution, I couldn't refit the caps, but the alloys had snug centre caps of their own and ultimately I wouldn't be getting debris finding its way in. It worked.

Yeah I've removed the caps on rear but stil too far out and didn't want to damage anything with grinding TBH.
Fronts don't fit either so I'm either going to have to find someone to mill them down or buy a new set as I have four and don't really want to throw them in the bin  :sad1:

Looks like they just haven't been machined correctly

Could well be that but why did that pri** sell them to me saying they fit the mk5

I'll find a machine shop who can cut them down.

Thanks

Was going to suggest a machine shop....but you're on the right track. Shouldn't be that bad a fitment though and obviously not correct. All you can do is compare the cost of machining to replacements.

Cheers man, if it's £30-40 quid then I'll get them done as just need an old school workshop with a lath or similar.

Thanks

Cheap enough yes but I paid £70 for two sets and the knob told me they fit the mk5 so I thought brand new why not. Then six weeks after purchase I decide to try one out and to my amazement it didn't fit front or rear as shown in the pic so now looking to get all four machined and if not then will need to buy two more sets for a further £50 odd quid but trying not to spend more money if these can be machined

If you take out the material indicated by the arrow down to a suitable depth...

...do you lose too much wall thickness between the arrows shown here:

Or would the cut not go that deep?

I take it the od is a good fit for the wheel?

Gone but not forgotten :-)

@flashp thank you showing the arrows in the pictures so now I can explain what needs to be done in order for them to fit perfectly as they fit around the hub and yes the oval diameter is perfect. If they are taken down about 5mm I will still have plenty on the outer rim in picture two as these are 15mm spacers so the inner lip can be machined down some more

Thanks

Just be careful it doesn't weaken the inner ring as could just snap when putting wheels on and off etc.

I'd machine them for you for free, but alas I'm on the other side of the world.
If your lucky you might find some machine shop with some car enthusiast who works there. They might do the job as a homer for a dozen beer. Should take a proficient turner no more than 30 minutes to do all four.
