What to service next?
« on: November 21, 2016, 12:06:01 pm »
So my MKV has just passed 130k and I have been a little lacks about servicing her recently, I had the cam belt and water pump done @ 120k and I keep up with an oil change around every 6 months, I changed the cam follower at 100k.

So what should look at sorting and in what order? Fuel filter? Spark plugs? If anyone has a idea of what to tackle and what should be the priority (after oil & filter) I can't afford to do it all at once so some guidance on what to look at would be good.

 Cheers

Plugs and fuel filter are a good shout. I did them on my car last month along with an oil and filter change.

yeah those seem logical, how easy is the fuel filter to do?

then as the car doesn't seem to be pulling as hard I think i'll look at doing the DV & a new "performance" panel filter, thinking a RAM air one this time.

Ever since I cut open a 12 month old fuel filter a few years back on a different car, I change them every year now.   Fuel is filthy.

Very easy to change.  The bundy fittings are a bit fiddly though and you need to relieve the tension from them by pushing the hose towards the filter before pressing the tab in, then they'll just pop off easily.

Check the cam follower again and replace if worn.

All filters should be done annually in my opinion, plugs I change annually too. Oil & filter every 6 months. Check both the DV and PCV and replace as needed.

oil and filter - £30 for Quantum 5w40 and an oil filter
Fuel Filter - £15-20 from TPS or main dealer
Plugs - £30 for BKR7EIX from eBay
Air filter - under a tenner from any motorfactor or main dealer

Not expensive and an easy DIY
