^^^^ It will be a brand new unit  :happy2:

Sweet   You're already running one from what I gather?  Are you loving it so far?  Living the turbo dream?

I am indeed  :driver: :driver:  It's an amazing bit of kit. I should have posted in the other thread, but i got side tracked.

I was running ko4 2+ for 3 years before the switch, same hardware, bar the extra fueling bits needed and it's a completely different car, mid range pull is just insane  :rolleye:

You won't be disappointed  :happy2:

I've not raced a stage 2+ ko4, i don't need to, from my own experience, and i'm no willy waver, there's no comparison and there's no "just pulling away" even when rolling, my new car would eat my old one

FFS now I gotta fund a Hybrid instead of a k04 rebuild lol

I've just bought one!

Happy Christmas Eddy

Congratulations mate :jumpmove: :pomppomp:

Keep us posted how you get on with it :happy2:

Cheers mate, and will do!

Believe it or not, I will be running it with the standard air box and cat back

I know that sounds like a waste but peak numbers don't motivate me, it's more the fatter power band I'm after and a turbo that can make the same power as a strung out K04, but at a more relaxed boost pressure, so probs aim for about 360-370hp

I totally understand where your coming from pal. Im running stock catback aswell im and more than happy with the sound of it. dont want it any louder. I do recall Niki stating that the backbox causes a restriction at 330ish but dont quote me on that. The standard air box may be a problem but im sure you cant be the only person looking at big power on a stock airbox.

I am pretty sure Niki won't be a fan of trying to squeeze a useful improvement out of a 420 over a K04 with that setup. From the conversation I had with him I think a few raised eyebrows will be seen to say the least. I had a stage 2+ map at Rtech, with VWR intake and a full miltek system. I asked in passing about what  a 420 offer and he said the intake and exhaust would restrict the benefit of that, and that simply bolting a higher flow turbo on would not yield what people think. Essentially every other part of the system needs to be optimised before the 420 would be of benefit over a K04.

That's kind of where I was at.  Buy a new OEM turbo, or dig a bit deeper and go hybrid.  In for a penny, in for a pound  :happy2:

Based on Orc's and Freddy's endorsements, I'm confident I made the right choice

I won't be using R-Tech for the mapping, so he needn't waste any energy raising his eyebrows    I hope this doesn't sound snotty as it's not meant to, but I'm not someone who takes what one tuner says as gospel, especially not when I have my own experience of turbo sizing from previous projects

There will always be people like me who challenge convention and want to follow their own path, as much as it may grate on people

Above all, playing with this stuff is more of a hobby and I like experimenting.   Have many people run a TT420 at 3/4 of it's ability with the factory intake and exhaust?  I seriously doubt it, so let me take one for the team just for schitts and giggles   It'll be fun!

And based on previous projects, I'm also mindful of gearbox limitations and my car being a daily.  I'd much rather take a daily reliable 350hp than a seriously compromised 450hp that's short lived.

Mate, no need to justify yourself. Dare I say it.... wait for it.....

I didn't like the Rtech map and went back to Revo (wait for the fan boys to step in) haha, but the Revo map was much better for me. Chasing headline numbers Rtech was better but the car felt faster and was more fun on Revo.

Pudding, if you're sticking with the oem downpipe and cats just do some logging and make sure your EGTs are in check. Can't see an issue with running a TTE on low boost myself if you're not in the numbers game. Although if it was me I'd at least be looking to free things up a little at the downpipe.

I'd imagine your mapper could get it spooling nice and early without having to concentrate on peak power.

Thats an interesting one. whats the comparison on the two? I was under the impression that Rtech maps are linear but more consistent, where are revo was more low end and faded out top end?

Im just asking as I have only had a Rtech map in the past so i have nothing to compare it to

Putting on a tte420 turbo to make 350 is a bit daft as you can get that easy with a k04.

I think you'll hit a limit of exhaust flow and egt with the Oem downpipe

I love this idea! Mega stealth mode! Love it :happy2:

Standard appearing Ed30 even when you open the bonnet; Check :happy2:
Big chubby unexpected slug of torque in the midrange; Check :happy2:
No stupid huffing and puffing from the airbox (I've an oversized Ramair and it makes an awful racket - but for some reason I kind of perversely like it ); Check :happy2:
OEM level of exhaust noise; Check :happy2:

My bad, I should have stated my car already has an APR 3" DP + Sport cat on it and is stage 1 tuned :happy2:

I would never entertain the idea of a standard DP with the 420   Anyone who has bashed the pre-cat out of one will have seen the crazy bottleneck where the cat bore diameter funnels down to a triangular shaped super restriction.

The Helix, Loba pump, DV+ etc are also already in place, so it's just a case of throwing the 420 on and driving it slowly up to my mapper for some N75 & fuel rail pressure tweakage.

So I suppose the only standard bits remaining are the airbox and the cat back exhaust section.  Upgrading these 2 parts will yield comparatively smaller gains overall compared to the DP and turbo, but if they prove to be extremely impactful to performance, I will of course weigh up my options, but initially I am keen to see what a TTE can do as is

350hp from a TTE420 vs a KO4 is not daft at all imo.  Look at the size of the turbine and compressor wheels on the TTE compared to K04.  Masses more flow.  This will give a broader torque band and will achieve the same peak hp from less boost, meaning longer turbo bearing life and less stress on pistons and rods.  A slight increase in spool up time is easier on the gearbox too.

Madone, I agree with you on Revo.  I really liked the feel of their Stage 1 map.  I think it's partly down to them retaining the OEM non-linear throttle map and also the way they ramp up the boost aggressively.  I like it  :happy2:

Amen to all of that

Here is a previous project where I was told a 2.5" exhaust and factory airbox would be a really bad idea, but was actually a very epic machine indeed!  Really miss it actually, it was bonkers fast    Younger viewers may not recognise the car, but it's a Corrado VR6, and the turbo is a GT35R, which is a superb turbo for reliability, spool and sheer grunt.
