Powervalve Fitted Woohoo!
« on: November 26, 2016, 09:01:36 pm »
I'll try to keep this brief, but as a starting point for those that skip read....
IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING A POWERVALVE, GET ONE!  :happy2:

I ordered a couple of weeks ago, Nige was friendly on the phone, certainly not pushy and recommended the cat back system I ordered. Origionally I mentioned the WRC system but after learning it would be too loud for me, decided against it.
Fast forward to yesterday, missed the postman so had to go and pick it up from local parcel force office, 15 miles in opposite direction to where I'd arranged for it to be fitted, which was the garage my son works at.
Anyway, at post office in good time (07:50) after de-icing car and driving through freezing fog. Left PO at 08:20 due to it taking woman over 15 mins to return with box  :fighting:

Thick fog for the rest of the journey meant it took 90 mins to get there....
Started with this, not pretty, but never cleaned it as always intended to replace at some time anyway.

Opened box and saw exhaust for the first time, both of us amazed at diameter of pipework and finish of workmanship  :congrats:

Quickly removed old section of old system and started to fit new, which as it happens only took 1 hour from start to finish, again, testiment to the quality of the workmanship. (which can't be said for the quality of the photos, not me, honest!)

Everything bolted up tight and started the car, Flip me, the sound was amazing, a really deep, subtle rumble and driving it was even better, DSG farts seem louder and over-run burble and little pops. Exactly what I wanted.
Unfortunately the drive home wasn't what I expected, quite loud when accellerating and a bit droney... oh dear, starting to question what I'd done.  :scared:
Got within about 5 miles of home and the realised the back seats were still folded down as the box was in the back, once home removed box, flipped seats up, put parcel shelf in and straight back out.....
PERFECT:driver: not loud, no drone and certainly not any louder than standard (in the car!) even got my wife's seal of approval, which is very hard to do.
The only issue I have is the tail pipes seem to be a bit low, doesn't look bad unless you look straight from behind. Although the original was quite low, so maybe just me being fussy.

Again, not a good picture but will get better in the morning.
Overall, chuffed to fk with it, sounds amazing, fantasic value, amazing quality and good service.
Apologies for the lengthy read, but credit where it's due to @Powervalve Nige
Any comments welcome, especially on the finished height of the tailpipes and if there's a way of raising them slightly, we had looked at bending the rear hanger, but couldn't decide at the time if it was too low or not  :stupid:

Congrats on the purchase. Great bit of kit isn't it.

I'd tweak it a bit. It'll fit nicer than that with a bit of fettling.

Shame you only went for a catback, their full systems give a big performance boost. Nothing stopping you from getting one of their downpipes in the future though.

I'm seriously considering one of these for myself. As above, I's be interested to know if it's a sports or prestige!

Excellent piece of kit, yes
Not sure what to tweak to be honest, the only thing we could see to move was the rear hanger on the left hand side. This looked bent on mine but not sure if this is supposed to be like it.
Couldn't justify a full system, I appreciate the gains but I only really drive it on a weekend and certainly not where I need anything extra.

I'm not sure to be honest, I think prestige and got 20% off.
I'm sure @Powervalve Nige will let you know.

On mine there's a join just in front of the fuel tank that gives better adjustment than messing about with hangers.

Thanks, will have a look at that, maybe we missed the obvious when fitting it.

Here's the fitment on my BCS and it looks much neater. Maybe because it was fitted by Nige and his team?

Really glad you're happy - yes that tail pipe is considerably out of alignment... certainly using the picture of the oem tails as a reference point.
We get this a lot of the time when aftermarket systems have been installed, very often oem hangers on the chassis have been bent to compensate for poor quality systems.
If you can tweak that rear hanger then you should be aiming for this...

Cheers
Nige

Thanks for the replies, I suspect the rear hanger needs tweaking because if you look at first picture of my old tailpipes they were very low as well. I noticed it wasn't straight when we had the car in the air.
How robust are these? will they snap if I genty tap it with hammer or does it need heating up first?

Yes - tap it gently... that's what we do. It's mild steel so it should be ok
cheers

Very nice indeedy  :happy2:

What diameter are the tail pipes as they look pretty small or maybe it's because they're hangig too low?.
