help window wash & wipers not working
« on: January 25, 2010, 05:33:59 pm »
Hi all
Both my front wipers and washer have stopped working.
I got them to work intermitantly on the way home but only three wipes at best then they stopped mid wipe.
Been having a look around when I got home and noticed that the MFD display shows the bonnet as being open even when its not (it shows it glowing red, which I believe means its open)
Question.
How does this work and where is the switch which detects if its open or closed? Is it underneath the bonnet catch?
This from memory will stop all the wiper functions at the front from working
I washed it over the weekend and wonder if I've got water in it.
Any advice gladly recieved
Thanks in advance
Neil

Found this on another site...

I work for Skoda (which as you know borrow alot of VW stuff) on the latest Octavias (Mk5 Golf floorpan) when the bonnet is released but still on the secondary catch the vehicle knows it is open and the wipers won't work full stop in this situation. Some models have a bonnet warning (normally higher end ones) but the vehicle still noly has the one microswitch in the bonnet catch.

I have worked on one vehicle where the washers were inop and so was the front wipers. The fault was a blown fuse for the washer pump which caused a whole host of problems and also generated some fault codes in the convience control unit.

I would look here and re double check all the fuses before going for a bonnet switch which isn't faulty cos if it was it'd cause the alarm to set off every time the car is locked cos it would think the bonnet had been opened.

No alarm going off on mine
Where is the fuse for the washer pump on the front??
Cheers

sorted it!
Diconnected the micro swith for the bonnet and the wipers now work so must be that.
Anybody fitted a new micro switch and how much?
It looks like you just have to remove the grill?
Cheers

I have this same problem, the 'hood open' warning light light keeps popping up and the dam alarm keeps going off after I lock the car! Is that part number you have quoted be all I need for the fix mr P?
