Limp mode ? possible turbo cause??
« on: December 23, 2016, 10:39:08 pm »
Hi all, my 2004 gt tdi 140 has gone into limp mode as i have very little power, iv owned the car for nearly a year and it has always made the siren noise so I'm thinking maybe the turbo has gone? i don't have any dash light on when its in limp mode and if i stop and re start the engine its ok for a bit then goes back into limp mode again.
Any help of what to look at first would be great thanks

Don't keep starting the engine because if the turbo has gone, pieces of metal can circulated round back into the intake and ruin the engine

don't know if its any help to you but I had a similar problem on a vw crafter. it kept going into limp mode and loosing power mainly under heavy boost going uphills, turn off ignition and restart and it would be fine again for a while. eventually the turbo blew completely and when I replaced it had no more issues. sounds like same symptoms to me and I personally think it was the variable vanes sticking.
