Maintenance suggestions please?
« on: January 07, 2017, 11:16:25 am »
Dear fellow GTI'ers,

My 2005 55 plate Mark 5 GTI is coming up to 100,000 miles.

I'm getting her in for a major service before her MOT in a couple of weeks, but does anyone recommend any additional parts or items to be checked at this mileage?

I looked in my book and nothing obvious was shouting at me to be done at this mileage.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Matt.

Obviously depends on your cars history, and what access you have to that history?

I did oil pick up, and was a complete waste of money - FOR ME. If you have any doubts about service history/oil frequency/quality; do it. E.g. mine was on extended service as a company car (not mine!) from new, and that worried me.

also think about...
brake fluid change, including flushing ABS p/p unit with VCDS.
Air intake tract/ valves clean.
Rust proofing of vulnerable underside - got mine steamed off and "topped up" as some suspension components shoing rust at vulnerable edges.
Get your battery tested  :signLOL:    see other rambling post on here  :signLOL:

Some of above is a bit of "future proofing" or maybe some sort of "investment", if you apply man maths?
