Bromley, Kent. Should add that it doesn't happen all the time, but random, as in cold or warm.

The car is a MK 7 GTI, 16k miles

Have you checked your engine mounts ? They can cause jerkiness if worn out apparently.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unlikely, given the random nature, low miles and that no other symptoms of worn mounts are present.
