AKS.

Awesome GTI claim the packs they sell are genuine, but they're not.

I rang VW & TPS and both were coming back around £160 for the four.

AKS sells the four for £90 delivered IIRC and they are genuine. Go AKS

Another AKS vote here. I think mine were 80 odd delivered.

Awesome GTI sells genuine coil packs that weren't stamped with the OEM part number. They have explained why this happens previously.

Something to do with the factory not putting the markings on at the factory?

I don't believe that.  There seems to be millions of these coils floating around from various US suppliers.

The only way to be 100% sure they are genuine, is to buy genuine, from a dealer.  If someone is able to sell a set of 4 for less than £100 and still make a profit, that ought to raise a few questions in your mind.

They say ECS Tuning buys such bulk quantities from the factory that it's not cost effective to get the coil packs stamped. Something like that. Do you know anyone who had issues with those coil packs sold by Awesome GTI?

In any case, I'd buy from AKS, TSR or Awesome GTI. From that order of preference.

OP, just go AKS. Genuine and the cheapest available - why wouldn't you?!

Not the Awesome ones specifically.  There are about 20 different makers of these coils showing online and Bosch, unsurprisingly, being the most expensive.  How many of these brands are likely outlets for Chinese cloning factories?!

But anyway, yes I would buy from AKS only.  He makes a point of stating they are genuine, which is reassuring.

Sure, we're not talking huge amounts of money here, but just like Chinese fake iPhone chargers, I'm not risking fake Chinese electrical parts on my car

Nobody would buy an Omega Seamaster watch with no markings on the back, because someone bought a 1000 of them from the factory for less money because they had no markings.  Trust your instincts.

They're cheaper than 2.0 TFSI coils. There used to be some idea about them being 'better' due to having a different resistance or something, but I don't think it's ever been proven.

I suppose the fact they're red rather than black is also appealing, if you don't have the engine cover on like most people with an aftermarket intake.

I have red r8 coil packs fitted. Bought the car with them fitted. No idea if they are genuine but they work and look good on a red gti

But if you buy from a real company, they have to state if they are genuine or knock off by law.
