New Front Tyres - Thoughts Please

Sorry, probably been done loads....

My GTI 2005 needs new fronts. The previous owner had put Eagle F1's on the rear, but the front has Pirelli P600's, and need replacing, so my initial thought is to match up with the rears and go for Eagle F1's.

Is this the best thing to do?? The rears have loads of tread remaining. Car has done 36,000 miles

I am in the exact same boat. I fit Eagle F1's all round but one of my fronts has a nail in it and a broken side wall.

Im thinking of changing both fronts to Michelin PS4's but not sure how that would work with Goodyears Eagle F1's on the back

Im in a similar situation at the minute im running continental contisport contact 5 i was looking at uniroyal rainsport 3s but havent heard any1s opinion on them amazon are doing a dgood deal on them atm

Nah, it'll be fine.  At that level the differences aren't huge, although the PS4 is noticeably better than the F1 in most circumstances.

If you'd said 'I find ditch for you sunny funners' at the front, with F1s at the back, different story!

Will be fine, that's what I have now until the rears go and i swap them to  PS4s too

Just checked the prices on the Pirelli p6000 - they are quite pricey £140

Found PS4's at £90 at F1 Autocentre, if ordered online

Got MOT tomorrow, was going to top up pressures a smidge, but hesitating in case I cant get the pressure warning light back off, once topped up, doh..... Anyone had any problems with TPS light???   Sod's law etc

£140 for P6000s?  You're kidding?!  They are quite literally the worst tyre I've ever used in the wet, and that comes from someone who used Yokohama A509s! Not bad in the dry though.

Mk5s have a passive tyre pressure monitoring system that controls wheel rotation difference between wheels. If all deflate at the same time I'm not sure it will warn anything.

The button only resets the system if you press it just after turning on the ignition. You can't do it after the car has rolled.

Unless switch is broke or there's a fault with an ABS sensor etc. it'll be fine

I got 2 new front Goodyear eagles for my zolders costing me £200 fitted from ATS local to me, which I didn't think too bad and have served me well since, good in wet and dry!!

These where original fitment on Peugeot 306 Rallyes, Absolutely lethal Tyres the P6000's! I replaced mine with the old rotational Goodyear F1 GSD3's back in 2008.
