I've searched this and other forums and have come up trumps.

My 2006 GTI number plate lights are not working  :fighting:

Here is the odd thing, when you unlock the car, the auto lights come on and so do the number plate lights, but only for 2-3 seconds, then they dont work, same when you turn the lights on inside. I have tried replacement bulbs, both sets are LED but ive had LED bulbs in there for about 6months.

I code checked a couple of days ago and got,
01504 - Bulb for License-Plate Light

So there is clearly power going to them, for 2 seconds atleast.

I have a similar problem with the driver door control panel (although this has been happening for a while) when you turn the ignition/engine on, the door control panel doesnt work for about 2-3 seconds (you can tell as the lights don't come on in that time)

Any ideas please as obviously this means I can't drive at night.

Thanks in advanced guys,

I had a similar problem with LED units, going back to standard bulbs will most likely solve it.

Retrofitting LED units unless genuine mk6 ones will cause some issues.

Will put the normal bulbs back in tomorrow and see. Seems really strange though. Can you not have LED bulbs then?

Thanks guys.

Source the problem first!

If your normal bulbs work then you can consider an OEM LED set from a mk6.

I picked up some clones on eBay that aren't bad but if I leave the auto lights on and start the car around 1 in 5 times they'll error out but all you need to do is switch the light to off and back to auto.

For the sake of saving myself around €100 I'll take that!

you see so many threads on here about led's for side lights and number plate lights, the mk5 needs to see the proper load of a normal bulb on the circuit, i love seeing can bus friendly written on all the led's as the wattage the onboard resistors have to dissipate will just burn them out in no time.

if you want to run led's you need to put a decent resistor on the wires of the bulb i have used these for number plate and side lights with no problems for over 4 years

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTEC-OBC-Bulb-Error-Load-Resistor-Kit-For-501-W5W-LEDs-Pair-/272327059527?hash=item3f67f52847:g:-M8AAOSwPRlXnyvQ

the connectors are for the side lights but for number plate lights you can splice into the wires to add the resistor
Loads of extra's and retro fits.
