i have conti sc5 on my standard gti atm and wet grip is poor however they are quite old and cracked which i think has a big part to play in it. i will be looking at ps4 or potenza s001's next i think

Contis SC5 are great on wet grip. Can't fault them against Goodyear Eagle F1 Asys 2, for example, which is a good tyre too in my personal experience (just has soft side walls, which is good for comfort and rolling noise but not great for hard cornering).

If they are cracked they must be pretty old and would explain why they are rubbish for grip. Rubber over time hardens as its looses the oils which make it soft and thus grippy. If yours are cracked I would say they are well over due a change.

You can see on the tyre sidewall when the tyre was manufactured. It'll be 4 digits, normally just past where it says DOT. The 4 digits relate to when it was made, for example 1215 would be week 12 of 2015.
