Please help. Non Running AXX
« on: March 20, 2017, 09:23:58 pm »
Now the dam thing won't start !

05 DSG model.

Timing  spot on, crank - cam pulley and timing setup on with tools on in and ex cam.  Ran perfect but failed mot due to decat.  Changed to std down pipe. Drove 12 miles and passed mot.  Went to start  the car the  next day and now it won't start.

Snap on code reader comes up with G28, engine speed signal. Fitted new crank sensor, no change.  Pined wires to the Ecu  , all ok. But rewired crank  sensor with new cables to Ecu plug. No change.  Cleaned all the earths . No change. Did a  Compression test, all above 200 psi.  Removed the coils and fitted the plugs in the end of the coils . When you first crank all 4 plugs fire for a split second and then after that only cylinder 2 coil pack fires. Cycle coils into cylinder 2 and they fire as well. The rev counter pulses when cranking .  Was told it was remapped . Do I presume Ecu fault?  As it's simply failing to recognise crank rotation.  Check NEW crank sensor and gives 1.7 AC volts  when cranking, so that's ok.  Please help before I set fire to the dam thing. Anyone got a wiring Diagram for engine management ?   Anyone had simlair problem

Open drivers door and listen out for the fuel pump priming.
Check cam follower in hpfp
Check fuses
Get it vag com scanned

Thanks for your input.

Fitted new Fp follower during course of engine rebuild. New OP and Cam Chain tensioner as well.  Cam lobe on inlet cam looks good. As per my other thread I still have low pressure warning that I cannot get rid of, I have 70 psi of pressure . The switch is disconnected .  Surely this cannot be related!

I've pulled of the fuel hose and although I've not done a pressure check, fuel is pumping out during cranking.  I'm sure it's priming on ignition and crank rotation ( Ecu must be seeing crank rotation for it to earth Fp relay).

Where are Ecu earths ?

You seriously need vagcom as you may have codes missing that you're not reading with the generic code reader and you can also use to check individual sensors on the vag cars.

Not sure where the earths are or if that would even be related as you had the car running before you got this issue.

Cheapest ones will be on eBay China but get the version 14 or above as the older ones don't work on our cars.
Hex can 14 black lead is what I have but I paid £46 from Australia

Against forum rules to promote the sale of counterfeit goods @r5gtt  :slap:

Especially when I splashed out nearly €400 for it  :signLOL:

You can use the VCDS register to find someone near you - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,88875.0.html

Very true, I remember about 2 years ago looking at a thread where a huge fight broke out over the sale of counterfeit VCDS.

It was brutal enough...

I'm glad I bought VCDS when I did but considering I've only used it about 4 times on my own car it's working out around €100 per use  :fighting:

Sounds like you know what you're doing but why did you rewire the crank sensor?  You didn't accidentally flip the sensor ground and signal wires over did you?

Lol, o dear. I'll look for a pukka copy lol

The engine was removed for a rebuild and I was not sure there was a broken wire in the efi loom.  New crank trigger did not remove the G28 , so I rewired the white, brown and black from the trigger direct to the Ecu multiplug. Cut 1 wire and soldered and cut another soldered, mission impossible style lol   Did it purely as an act of elimination . Car done 184k , shes an old bird and wondered if loom was brittle.

I did find a highline crack  in Fuel pressure sensor , so I changed this with a secondhand unit, however the last three number were different.  why would FPressure sensor disable 3 ignition drivers !    No codes on the snap off machine.   Tried both keys in case it's was a faulty chip in the key.

Honestly lol.  Did VW forget about the combustion triangle , talk about making it differcult for the sake of it.

4 times use  :signLOL: I've used mine many times so well worth what I paid for it and I know how people get upset about having paid full price when there are clones out there now but we're living in a dog eat dog world so everyone's making copy everything.

OK, gotcha.   So you re-terminated the existing wire?  It's just that crank sensor cable is special screened and twisted stuff, so if you replaced the whole length of wire with any old random wire, the ECU will get shed loads of errors and won't like it!

Yeah weird it's about the coils. I'm wondering if the ECU has blown ignition drivers.  Are you able to borrow a known good ECU from someone to test the theory?

Yeah, just soldered wire 1" upstream of grey crank trigger plug and same on the Ecu side.  I think I have found someone with vw software, I shall get him todo a plug in.  Other wise I'm p ing in the wind  and getting wet !

How do I removed the stop low oil pressure?   Do I simply rewire the oil pressure wire back to the dash ?  Can it not be earthed ?

This WAS a cheap car lol.
