Advice on Remap for MK5 GTI DSG!
« on: March 30, 2017, 12:10:49 am »
Hi folks, I am considering to remap my DSG for the very first time, any friendly advice on how to go about this, recommendations, etc, are all welcome on this thread.  :happy2:

I would also be grateful to know what is the general opinion on Chip Box Tuning option?

Sounds like a MK5 GTI 💥👊🏽💯

Stay away from 'chip tuning' boxes an mickey mouse flash mappers

Find a VAG specialist - R-Tech are the preferred favourite on here as they do a cracking job and actually tune your car, not just throw 25% more fuel & boost on and send you on your way like a lot of setups do. If R-Tech are too far, Revo and APR both have dealers across the UK that will flash very good maps to your car.
TFSI... Revo Stage 2+... . WMI.... VCDS HEX + CAN, MPPS, VAG Commander & VAG tacho - South Wales

I chose Revo as the installer (JKM) are very local to me so support is close by (although never been required). Consider this for yourself as you may not like a tour of the UK to get assistance.
Whoever you go for, consider the quality of the service they provide. Make sure that they are aware of all the requisite checks before mapping that relate to the foibles these cars have. DV, cam follower for fuel pump, potential fuel cuts due to weak fuel pump. If they are unaware of these things then walk away.

A tuner that has VAG servicing capability/experience may be more aware of what's required to check and prepare a MK5 for tuning.

Factor in a HP fuel pump if you can. Not essential but a good safeguard for your engine and will allow the best from a stage 1 map. Loba are well priced now. And an intake is not necessary for stage 1.

A DSG map also goes well on these, I have one on mine and it gives the box a profile that matches the tune perfectly. Better than factory by a large margin.

Tuning boxes are something to avoid.
