Help needed please
« on: April 05, 2017, 03:05:49 pm »
Hey guys. Had the dreaded subframe creak which came on suddenly last week. Anyway got the ecs upgraded bolts plus shims, fitted it up and it's not changed at all. Local garages reckon it could be drive shaft and recommend replacing. Anyone heard that before and as anyone had the same fault.

Does it creak when driving in a straight line?
Driveshaft noise would be more of a loud clicking noise more than a creak. When my n/s driveshaft was f*cked it made a racket when I was setting off towards the right or left.
Have a look at the boots on the driveshafts, any leaks? Would normally have green/black grease leaking out the boot

When driving in a straight line there's no noise at all. It's all low speed turns and yeah it's clicks or clunky noises. Also turning from a road to a road with opposite camber is very noisy. Over speed bumps and normal driving it's silent. Only when I'm turning is it noisy. HTH as I'm having bad luck with this car.

Yeah I'd defo have a look at the cv boots for leaks and go from there mate
If I remember correctly(probably not) if its already clicking and being noisy then a cv boot kit won't repair it, the cv joint will have to be replaced. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
I changed the whole n/s driveshaft with brand new when mine played up. Quite expensive.
You can pick up second hand ones off eBay for quite cheap, id contact the seller before asking what condition it's in etc, check the boots are in good nick in the pics.
Hope that helps mate

Thanks for your help mate. The garage have quoted £70 which I'm assuming was the part as well. I honestly hope it is this as it's embarrassing when driving slow and turning. It sounds like a big bag of sh*t. Honestly sounds like it's about to fall apart. I was there when the bolts and subframe spacers were fitted this morning and everything looks ok including the cv boots. I found a big oil leak from the dv as well and it's fluttering under boost badly. It'll be a good car when it's done I'm just gutted I'm here in this situation with it.

I know the feeling mate trust me but stick with it, hopefully cheap and easy fix
Dv can get loose, if you haven't already, change it to the revised dv and pretty sure you'll be good to go
