Front suspension arms
« on: April 10, 2017, 01:49:14 pm »
My car failed it's MOT today!  :sad1:

Only on the dust caps on the drop links but an advisory was the suspension arm bushes are deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement. I have often heard it's cheaper just to replace the entire suspension arm rather than paying to get the bushes pressed out and replaced. Is it worth upgrading the aluminum S3 suspension arms? The rest of the suspension is stock.

I've replaced my cast iron control arms recently with aluminium arms. Had to exchange the front Powerflex bushes and the small piece of the rear bush from the SuperPro anti-lift kit bushes. Also replaced the ball joints for the S3/Passat which correct a bit the roll centre.

The aluminium arms weight half of the stock version and my suspension with a BBK that has 13 kg brake discs became less crashy over bumps.

It's only worth it if you can source the parts for a cheap price. New items are a bit expensive, I think.

@dansmith180 had some alloy wishbones with bushes for sale

i would just buy powerflex or superpro bushes or the supaloy arms.
aftermarket arms use poor quality bushes and you can't replace the bushes either as they use a larger console housing.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just stick with stock for now, managed to find some Lemforder ones for under £60 each which I believe make the genuine ones anyway. I think if I was more serious about modding the suspension I would go for the S3s but at this moment in time I'm happy with stock.
