P0234 Error Code - MK5 Golf GT TDi 140bhp
« on: April 12, 2017, 03:22:44 pm »
Hi All.. Newbie here.. So I've recently upgraded from a mk4 to a mk5 and just wow.. MK5s are a whole new world of amazing!

First of all.. Apologies if I've posted in the wrong section!

I picked up a 2.0 GT TDi which is running 140bhp.. It's a 3 door.. Manual..

It seems to have a problem where when it hits around the 70mph mark it completely loses power and goes into limp mode forcing me to switch off and switch back on again! Really frustrating when trying to overtake on the M25!!!

First thing I did was plug the computer and check what's up.. It gave an error code of P0234 which my local garage changed the MAF Sensor for me hoping that would sort it but it hasn't!

Also it seems to drinking a LOT of coolant!! I've probably put in about 2 litres over the past week!! Just keeps popping up saying STOP CHECK COOLANT and when I do it's near enough empty? No signs of any leaks though!

Has anyone got any ideas??

The code  is the car over boosting and could be a few faults but my money will be on the turbo gains sticking.
The issue with the coolant could be
1.leak in the system i.e. radiator or egr
2.porious head as the old mk5 had
3.head gasket..
If you bought the car from a garage is it under warranty !!

The coolant could also be down to the EGR leaking, which is a known issue on the PD140's.

The over boosting might be down to coked up VNT on the exhaust side of the turbo. See if you can move the VNT valve by hand.

I'd go with the sticky veins on the turbo ,had the same issue with mine ,local garage has freed it up now

If garage bought take it back
