Similar to the above, I fitted VWR springs and the matching VWR dampers to mine over the easter weekend. Likewise, 3 of the 4 original shocks were pretty worn out, but not to the point of the car feeling dangerous to drive.
Mine needs an alignment as I changed to Passat B6 alloy hubs etc at the same time, but my initial impressions are very positive. The kit feels like OEM just dialed up a notch in the corners but no reduction in ride quality.
Hi just a question, what did you need to do to fit the Passat B6 alloy hubs? Thanks
You have to swap all the parts over from the GTI hubs - wheel bearings, ABS sensors, cable / hose support brackets, caliper carriers, calipers, struts...... the lot! It's a good time to replace anything that's worn, such as wheel bearings, ball joints, tired CV gaiters, top mounts etc.
The ABS sensors will benefit from a thorough clean up too.
You also need:
Passat 21mm caliper carrier bolts x 4 (longer because the alloy casting is thicker)
Passat 18mm ball joint shouldered nuts x 4 (1 the track rod end, and 1 for lower ball joint. Much bigger diameter to stop the steel inserts pulling through)
Golf/Passat bearing housing bolts x 8 (4 per bearing, they are one time use)
Golf/Passat ball joint nuts x 6 (also one time use apparently)
Golf/Passat strut pinch bolt & nut (one time use)
24mm Main hub bolt x 2 (one time use)
13mm top mount bolts x 6 if replacing the TMs (one time use)
