Front Red GTI Badges
« on: April 30, 2017, 06:03:11 pm »
Bought the red front GTI badge but it's a poor design and doesn't fit where the original was... for those of you with red badges how have you stuck these on?

I also have the red letters separately fyi (as in without the black backing)

Is this OEM or off ebay?

I seem to remember a few off here ordered what were advertised on ebay as OEM - displayed with a proper VW box etc - but what turned up was a replica.

I'm pretty sure you can get a genuine one (off a Polo or maybe a mk7) for a decent price from the dealer.

You'll still be able to get it to fit. Just less straightforward! I'm sure there are plenty on here who have managed it. You should get some responses.

i bought the rear red gti badges from vw for £22 (see my build thread for pics)

the front i don't think the MK7 one fits from what I'm aware. the replica ones do need a bit of tampering to fit unfortunately.

They are a terrible fit. My car had the red replica badge on when i bought it, 1st post picture. You can make it look better but it takes a bit of messing about and you have to really tighten it hard to get it to stay or cut the plastic bits out of the grill from the original badge fittings.

Fobbed mine off when i found a mint genuine silver badge in a breakers yard.

I have this though decided not to fit mine and keep the OEM chrome badge in the end. You are missing some pieces with the replica red badge, you need the back fitting plate, 2x long taper threads and hex locking nuts.

You need to take out the grille then pry off the mounting bracket of the OEM badge. Then align the red badge with the long threads through the honeycombe gaps. Once in you put the backplate in and put the locking nuts on to secure it in to the grille.

i took the original badge off then drilled 2 holes in the mounting area for the original badge. if i ever wanted i could still fit an original badge if i wanted
the only thing i wasnt too keen on was the fact it dosent really follow the curvature of the grill

I used two sets of the rear ones you have- took the silver letters off the original front badge and stuck the red ones on- the letters themselves are slightly smaller than the silver ones though
