Aftermarket headunit

Hi, new to the forum and just bought my first mk5 gti. I've got an aftermarket alpine to install but hearing a few issues off various people about fitting I have a few questions. I've read ouddles of guides etc and confident in installing it, just wanted a few things cleared up.

My question is firstly is it wise to do so? Secondly I was under the impression it was straight forward as I believe I have everything I need (autoleads harness and fakra aeria adapter)

Any help/advice would be appreciated

Thanks.

Ive just put a single din in mine, couldn't be bothered with the hassle of importing in a vw unit and messing with the can gateway.
I bought the single din conversion fascia from vw, fakra aerial adapter and the harness adapter.
I had to add an ignition fed 12 volts source to mine as there wasn't one there, this was easily picked up from the fusebox with a piggy back style fuse.
