Car Grabbing Rear Brakes Mid Corner
« on: May 02, 2017, 10:09:31 pm »
I've noticed quite a few times recently that my car seems to feel as if it's randomly grabbing a rear brake for no reason while I'm cornering, especially on a left hander. It's almost landed me in some sticky situations and scared the hell out of me a few times now so I'm really wanting to get to the bottom of it. I know that it will start grabbing brakes if the car starts sliding but it's doing it when the car is perfectly stable. Has anyone else experienced similar issues?

Got any ESP/ABS/Steering angle sensor related fault codes?

Do you get the same problem if you turn off ESP?

Is one of your rear wheels noticeably hot after a drive?

An intermittent sticking caliper could be catching

Log the ABS sensors with VCDS then go out for a hard drive to induce the effect. You will likely find that one of the sensors will flag an abnormal reading

As above though, turn of the ESP and try it again and you'll likely find it won't happen

I had this happen immediately after putting new rear tyres on. The fronts were worn and the difference in size was causing ESP to cut in.  It was flashing on the dash whenever this happened though.
