Some bell end damaged my car. Advice on repair?

So some inconsiderate white van man squeezed through a gap too small and scraped the rear quarter of my car.

Any advice on how this gets repaired as I can't see how the panel can be replaced as it's part of the shell.

The damage isn't too bad bit there is still a dent.

Any advice from anyone who has suffered this sort of damage? And where to take it to get it repaired to the highest standard in the derbyshire area?

That sucks! 

Best bet would be take it along a few body shops and get some quotes and take it from there. Because of where the damage is they might be able to pop the dent back out by removing the arch liner and getting to the back of the panel. Not sure though. As for the paint some of those marks will polish out using a machine polisher and others will be made a lot less obvious but that panel might/will most likely need a re-spray.

Like I said though, get it to a body shop and get some quotes for what they could do then you'll know what the options really are.

I'm based in Ireland so can't help you with a local body shop. But if it's any consolation a friend of mine had very similar damage to his A4 Avant and he brought it back to his Audi main dealer and they did a perfect repair on it!

Same exact spot as you. So they couldn't replace the panel. But whatever they did do with it, it was absolutely perfect. So there is definitely a method. Hope you get sorted soon

Thanks for the replies. I've never been involved in an accident before so been lucky in never having my car damaged.

It's all new to me having to sort this out. I got the guys details and he admitted liability to me, just hope he says the same when it comes to his insurance company.

Makes me so angry that I look after my car with OCD levels then someone comes along and does this.

I take every precaution I can like never going in public car parks and have a large reserved spot at work, so never to pick up car park dings etc.

Such a horrible feeling, gutted for you.

If it's going through his insurance then a lot of insurance companies will deal with certain body shops, so they may tell you which body shop to take it to to get fixed.

If he has admitted fault etc then it should all be paid for by his insurance company.

I know what you mean about being careful when you park and choosing larger spaces etc. I was getting my wife's car MOT'd yesterday (it is called an NCT in Ireland and is done in big centres with lots and lots of cars going through every few minutes) and the MOT tester opened the door of one car right into another!

Shocking! Some of those lads just don't give a sh*t! I woulda been totally gutted if It was my motor!!

Some of the larger dealership groups (the ones that operate many brands) have specialist repair centres and they get it perfect and if you're not happy they redo it. I went to one and one of them clipped the front bumper when I was getting some rust fixed in the sills, and pointed out fixed and blended no problem for free.

Did you get plenty of pics immediately after the collision? Did you askmid the van to see if he had insurance before he left the scene?

Just because I know someone who went through this recently and the other car had no insurance and there were no pics taken so the claim ended up being pointless.

I didn't get enough in hind sight.
I did check MID when I got home and it showed him not insured which panicked me, however I then tried my own reg and it said not insured. Tried a few other cars and they all said not insured so guessing the site has issues.

My insurance company have confirmed he is insured.

Would only cost you a few hundred at the very most to fix but you're likely to pay more for your increased insurance premium over the coming years. The majority of the damage there would polish out tbh. Would say you're looking at about £300 at the very most for a good quality repair, go round to some cheaper bodyshops and they'll barely charge you £100 to fix that.

Pretty sure failure to declare an accident even as the victim will now invalidate your insurance anyway so its a bit of a gamble either way. I might be wrong given but insurance companies want every oppurtunity to label you a risk nowadays...

If it's a hit and run situation and minor damage it's cheaper just to get it repaired privately as no one was hurt and the other driver clearly drove off so why make it a bigger issue telling the insurance when they'll just put your premium up for something that wasn't your fault!!!

You are supposed to declare every accident you have to your insurance company but in no way is it a gamble. There's no way your insurance company are going to find out you've been in accident (especially such a small one like the OPs) unless you or the third party tell them.

It looks to me like that could be repaired without painting.

That dent can be pulled out by a mobile dent man, and a machine polish might get rid of the scrape ...depending if that's white paint on top of your paint we see in the pics.

If that's actually down to your primer though, will need paint.

I'd call a mobile repair guy (one who does paintless dent removal) to come out and have a look.

No way I'd personally take that through insurance.
