How do the slotted puck ones work ? Do they use the same mounting holes as these ?

the puck fits onto the jacking points. These arent fixed in place like the ones you mentioned but sit in the cup of the trolley jack  http://www.stiblog.com/modifications/diy/diy-pinch-weld-adapter/  Locating the jack points on the car body in all important

its like this one, but with a slot cut in it (use angle grinder/disc cutter)

£1.50...
Slot aligns with reinforced section of cill...

or you could get special classic car ones at 4 for £10!

I use these ones - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MQ254LI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I went through a few different pucks and found them to be either too soft, or didn't fit in my jacks properly.  Those ones are perfect for the Halfords trolley jacks I have.

Regarding the S3 jacking points, I'm not a fan.  I'm sure I read online ages ago that those points on the bodywork are for transporting the shell around the factory and not designed to be jacked up frequently, hence why they strengthen up the pinch welded part of the sill significantly and is the official jack point.  Not even dealers use the S3 pads, or even fit them as standard at the factory.  Using those points on the MK4 platform caused the floor to collapse when Coilover users kept jacking the car up for adjustments.  You have been warned
