Buying tips please...

Hi,
   Looking to get myself a mk5 GTI, had a mk2 for years but fancy something a little more modern. Has anyone got any tips or faults I should look out for? Looking to spend below £5500 if possible on a 5 door. Would hate to buy a lemon and get hit with expensive repair bills. Many thanks.
