Looking to buy a mk5 gti I'm not looking to spend a fortune maybe up to 4K.if the car has been well serviced what are maintenance costs going to be like I don't really want any thing that's going to drain my bank🤞.

Air filter - 24K
Fuel filter - 40K
Spark plugs - 40K
Oil and filter - 10K if on fixed interval, or 20K if on variable interval.
Pollen filter - 30K I think.
Cam belt every 4 years.
MPG - 29 - 36 depending on right foot weight.
DSG service - 40K
Brake fluid service - every 2 years.

Does that seem expensive to you?  It doesn't to me

I would say 4K is at the lower end and will need more work to bring it up to a good standard, but otherwise super reliable cars if looked after.

Hi, as long as you buy sensibly, a decent well sorted gti can be purchased for reasonable money.
I myself bought a gti at the very bottom end of the market for less than £2.5k in may last year, mechanically sound with a fsh, recent cambelt, new discs and pads all round, refurbed wheels with new tyres, the clutch was good and it drove spot on. The catch? it had done 159k, its now on 165k and all I've had to spend out on so far is a thermostat.
Basically what i'm saying is don't judge a car on its mileage, but on its condition, luckily plenty of people are scared away from anything over 100k miles, which leaves plenty of bargains for those who see past it.
