Engine mapping
« on: February 03, 2018, 03:28:01 pm »
Afternoon all. I've always been happy with my GTI but the thought of more BHP and torque for a few hundred pounds is starting to appeal. After some reasearch it seems I can get upto 255BHP ish and loads more torque for £300-£400 with out doing any physical modification. Then I read I need to upgrade the fuel pump.

What's your experience of remapping and will I need to change anything?

No fuel pump upgrade necessary for stage 1 which will see 250HP and 320lbft (ish).

I've been stage 1 from RTech since the summer, with 4k miles covered, and couldn't be happier. Just do your research and make sure you car is mechanically sound beforehand and you wont be disappointed  :driver:

That phrase "mechnically sound" seems like a bit of an open book. At what point do you start and stop? What company did you use?

I guess each persons idea of mechanically sound will differ. But I made sure the following were done or at least checked:

Engine oil(5W40)/filter
Fuel Filter
Timing Chain/Tensioner
Cam Belt
plugs/coils
any fault codes?
Diverter Valve
PCV
HPFP cam follower
Oil pickup checked and cleaned
Brakes/Suspension/Tyres - to avoid spending on these shortly after the map.

There may be one or two things Ive forgotten too. But that covers the majority.  :happy2:
