Hi Guys,
Just thought id say hello, bought my self an 06 GTI in silver. Previously was driving a 1.4 corolla so a massive change in speed. I think i paid a bit over the market price but i am really enjoying it so far. Its done 76,000 on the clock and i think is in decent shape for its age.
Good bits
Previous owner put brand new pirelli tyres and its had the timing belt and waterpump done in 2016 - 71K miles. Immaculate condition inside. it is completely stock so nothing extra inside. Removed the oil stick whilst on and the car shuddered so i am assuming the DV is fine.
Bad bits
It has developed slight bubbling on the arches and when you look underneath you can see the rust. The MFD occasionally flickers and does crazy things. A slight screeching noise from drivers side wheel, but only happens when coasting and driving straight, stops when i turn left or right. Alloys need a refrub. Couple of carpark dings and the back bumper has some stone chips. Air con doesn't seem to work. No cold air. Front top grill slightly cracked. Not sure if cam follower is done.
For piece of mind, decided to take it for a full service at Volksmaster - and was told one o/s/r coil spring had snapped and the front break pads and discs were worn/corroded. Decided to change both rear springs and front pads and discs. Roughly £600 inc service. i did want the brake fluid replaced but he said something along the lines of if i do it there is a chance i would snap something and the calipers would need changing. May need to start saving for some calipers. They have discoloured. Also n/s/r backing plate is missing and the other is corroded. Will need to change them soon.
Plan is to keep it stock. I only do 16 mile return commute a day and all local roads. But I actually look forward to driving it everyday. I suppose this will wear off soon once the honeymoon period is over.
Thanks for reading and if you have any idea about the screeching noise let us know.
