Speed Camera Question
« on: October 26, 2018, 11:01:11 pm »
Hi, hoping someone could help.

I was driving down in Somerset a couple of weeks ago and am pretty certain I got flashed by a speed camera when I was driving in my partner's car. We've not long moved house so the license/car was registered at our old address. We've updated the address now but am pretty sure any letter in the post went to the old address. Checked at the old house but all mail has been binned.

My question is how do I check if I have any pending offences? Been researching online but cant seem to find a straight answer to this. Thanks.

Bit of a waiting game really. 14 days time limit to send to reg keeper. If your new house owners have binned your post (real nice of them to do that) then if an NIP has gone to your old house and been binned then 'potentially', the fact is un-answered will lead to a summons being sent for not replying. This may or may not go to your old house, depends on the speed of DVLA admin updating records. If your new house owners bin that too....well, you need to sort things before that.
For goodness sake get a post office diversion set up so none of your old mail goes missing. If only to stop your life (financial etc) being at the mercy of someone else.
You could contact the police in that area explaining the circs too.
And on the other hand....it could well be it all fizzles out to nothing and you got away with speeding, if in fact you were?

Fingers crossed that the flash did not lead to a letter from the patronisingly named ‘Traffic Criminal Justice Unit’ however is good advice to get that mail redirect sorted.

Just to update, no notifications received in the post, also had another similar situation since then which I didn't receive anything for. Really keep an eye on my speed now as I've decided it's not really worth it just to get somewhere like 30 seconds early lol.

Don't speed, don't worry. Simple really.

Was it a single flash, or a double flash?  Overhead gantry type, or a yellow box on a post job?

The general rule of thumb is: if you don't get a letter within 14 days, you've got away with it.  And single flash = fine, double flash = busted.
