Back from major service

Hi,

My 2007 Ed30 has just come back from a 75k major service and a few things needs to be addressed, would appreciate your feedback. I will be instructing a local or specialist garage to address these issues:

1. broken rear coil spring at base (URGENT) - I will replace the pair. Looking at parts catalogues online part number is 1K0511115EC, they have bule/pink/yellow/yellow markings. TPS want £85 per spring after discount, is there anywhere cheaper for genuine? Should I look at other quality alternatives - Sachs / Bilstein / Eibach? Any other parts I should also consider changing?

2. Rear track arms, rear transverse arms and anti roll bar link rubber bushes deteriorating/splitting (RECOMMENDED) - these components seem to go by many names, from what I can tell they are as follows:
              anti roll bar link (track rods): 1K0 505 465 K
              rear track arm (upper wishbone): 1K0 505 323 N
              rear transverse arms (lower wishbone) 1K0 505 311 AB
Does that seem correct? Best to stick to genuine or other brands? Anything else I should do along with this?

I will run it by the garage I instruct but I'd like to swat up before hand.

I have a pair of rear springs I no longer need as I changed my springs for lowering ones.

I'd  let them.go super cheap if you're interested?

You could go for poly anti roll bar bushes, powerflex amongst others do them.

Thanks for the offer, it's a job I only want to do once so will stick with a new set.

How will the ride be with poly? It does seem wasteful having to replace wishbones and the like just because of the rubber bushes.

swapping bushes out on the rear for pollys can be real time consuming (more labour) depending on which bushes exactly. I would replace to polly personally though... as chances are you probably wont have to replace again! you also wont notice a massive difference in the ride quality over standard bushes. I mean yes it will feel a littler tighter but not track ready tight!

anyone else can feel free to give there opinion on the Pollys

I have poly front and rear arb bushes and there is no harness at all.

I also have my front wish bones polybushed and again there is no harness, the car just feel a bit tighter but that could just be because the old ones were so worn and replacing them with OEm might have given the same improvement.

i'll do the rear eventually but I'll buy the arms second hand, clean and paint, fit new poly bushes and then just swap the arms for the ones on the car.

that's a good idea tbf... buy second hand arms etc. I know this chassis isn't much different to the touran, but I have a touran and replaced the main rears to pollys due to tire wear and I didnt notice a huge difference... bit like you said fudge probably coz the old ones are so worn you don't know what to expect with the new or Polly.

personally.. go Polly route and get it done once and for all :)

Try SKODA and SEAT dealer for prices.  I have found them to be cheaper than TPS on several occasions  Which is crazy

Thanks for tip on the poly bushes, I will look into it especially given the fact I have just priced up upper and lower wishbones, drop links, track rods and all the nuts, bolts and washers for £600, that is for genuine VW parts for the rear only 

What are thoughts on Lemforder or Meyle parts? I remember reading from my BMW days the quality of Meyle has gone down since they moved production to China. Meyle HD is of a better quality but not all the parts are available them.

Any other alternatives to consider?

Ebay has some pattern stuff, think you can get the whole lot you are after...'transverse control arm set Audi A3 Q3 Seat Altea Leon Toledo VW Touran Golf 5 6' is what it was when I looked it up.

Obviously though the quality will be nowhere near OE parts, but how bad it's difficult to gauge, as no-one has posted a review of them.

It pretty much has everything you'd need but I can't help think it's too cheap. As daft as it sounds I'd rather pay more and be sure I was getting a quality item.

I've bought and used loads of Meyle parts without issue for a few years, mk2, mk4, e46 and mk5.
