Boost leak

Right then, after months of engine warning light going on and off whenever it felt like it (with no other symptons), the light went off the other day so I assumed that it had 'fixed' itself again. 2 days ago, the light came back on and this time, I lost power.

Now when accelerating, there is a very noticable drop in performance and it sounds like the diverter valve is continuously dumping the boost (exactly like when you lift off the accelerator pedal). Checked the engine with VCDS yesterday and I got the following faults logged:

001089 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow
               P0441 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - MIL ON

It looks like I have a boost leak! Any ideas where to start looking? I did have problems with the standard dv on my old S3 (1.8T), but I don't know where it is on the 2.0T so I'm not sure what to lok at first.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh, and to anyone that says they told me not to ignore the engine warning light: yeah, yeah, you were right! But I DID try to get VW to look at it!!

Have you get an OEM diaphram DV? I'd start there.

Yes, and that was my thought as well. My question is, where is it on these engines? I haven't really looked yet, but I thought I'd get some ideas before I went out to look. It was too dark last night to start looking for problems.

Its on the back of the turbo on the K03's. I'm pretty sure you can only get at it as well from under the car.

If you've got one, I'd change it for the D-type piston version even if it isn't broken (which it most likely is) as it'll just go anyway.

£40-ish from the dealers I think?

What are your reasons for suggesting the OEM one? Apart from the price, why not the Forge one?

If you're not in a rush I may end up with a spare DV valve up for grabs in the next week or so...

I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago, dealer charged me £46 for the rev D piston type DV.  The most awkward part was getting the car jacked up high enough and on axle stands so that I had enough room to change it, wasn't hard once I got going with it. The tear in my old DV was about 2cm long and my car felt miles better than it had for ages once I got the new one on!

The piston is electronic so no vacuum and it has been proven to work very well. The main thing is the price though.

K04s might benefit more from the Forge one though???
